Jeff Weiss Marketing & Web Design

Our Web Design Philosophy
Most of our work is for small to medium-sized companies with budgets to match. We tailor our work to suit these smaller budgets and opt more for precision than lots of bells and whistles. Which is a good thing for everyone.

We create web sites that are highly functional, and highly usable for all visitors. We hand-code rather than using a web site creation program. This offers the benefit of greater page loading speed, better search engine placement, ease of maintenance, and a better user experience for visitors to the web site.

Some would argue that it's more work to create sites this way. If you've ever visited a web page that crashed, didn't load for a very long time, or told you to upgrade your browser, you'll understand why we prefer our method over the alternatives.

Planning for Web Site Design
Whether you're designing a new site or re-designing an existing one, proper planning is an important first step.

You should be able to answer a few simple questions in the planning stage:
  • Who is your audience?
  • What do they want from you?
  • What do you want them to know about you?

Answering these questions will make it easier to assemble the resources needed for the web site.

Web Site Navigation
The next step is to plan for the navigation of the web site. This is probably the most crucial step. Good navigation provides a strong foundation for any web site and makes it easy to find information. After all, visitors to your web site came for the information in the first place. Whether it's your phone number, map to your location, or details about your products and services, they want to find it. More importantly, YOU want them to find it.

How Much Will it Cost?
One of the most frequently asked questions of any web designer is, "How much will it cost to build a web site?" More times than not, the navigation plan will be a good indicator of the cost to build.

If you want to build a house, how much will it cost? The architect will need to know how many bedrooms, bathrooms, other rooms, and square footage will be needed before estimating the cost. The same is true of a web site. If you know how many sections the site will have and how many pages will be in each section, most web designers can work from there to prepare an estimate.

What About the Search Engines?
Yes, we do search engine optimization. Because we hand-code using HTML, our sites are usually represented well in the search engines. We will fine tune for specific keywords or information.

We frequently get calls to optimize sites that were created by other designers. Some sites just won't show up in the search engines no matter what you do. These sites are usually created with Flash, or database programs using ASP, PHP, or Cold Fusion. If your entire site was created in Flash, you're out of luck.

E-Commerce Sites?
If you're already profitable selling products offline and have a great product line, let's talk. For years we stayed away from e-commerce sites because the expectations going in were very high, and the costs were a bit prohibitive. But a lot has changed in the last few years and there are some very cost effective solutions available today.

Recently, we have set up several affiliate programs through Amazon.com and are working regularly with Google AdSense to offer pay-per-click campaigns. If you have a web site with decent traffic, these programs could put a little more money in your pocket.
